AI, New gTLDs, and the Future of Domain Investing

Naming demand is being reshaped by AI-generated brands and a maturing gTLD landscape. What survives the shift — and what quietly appreciates.

Two forces are rewriting the naming market at once. AI naming tools have collapsed the cost of generating brandable candidates to nearly zero, and the new gTLD program has matured from a speculative land rush into a stable, segmented ecosystem. Both changes reward investors who understand what machines cannot replicate.

Scarcity moved, it did not disappear

When anyone can generate a thousand pronounceable names in an afternoon, the value of “a decent brandable” falls toward zero. What retains value is what generation cannot produce: exact-match category terms, aged names with history, and short .com inventory that was registered decades ago and never released.

gTLDs have found their lanes

.ai owns applied AI. .io remains the default for developer tooling. .xyz carved out web3 and experimental brands. The lesson for investors is that extension value is now community-driven, not registry-driven. Buy the extensions your target buyers already respect, and ignore the rest of the long tail.

What we are buying

Aged two-word .com names in durable categories — health, finance, logistics, climate. Single-word names in the three or four extensions with proven end-user demand. And nothing, at any price, whose only selling point is that it contains a trending substring.
